InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has been recognised for its contribution
to sport by Sport Industry Australia (SIA), which presented the Group with
the 2003 Corporate Award of Distinction at its Annual General Meeting last
week.
A peak body of the Australian sport industry, SIA works with Federal and
State Governments to protect and promote the interests of sporting
organisations. InterContinental Hotels Group was presented with the award
to acknowledge the significant and vital difference that IHG’s sponsorships
makes to national sporting organisations in Australia and for the support
provided to SIA through the Group’s network of hotels throughout Australia.
IHG’s Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands sponsor a wide range of sports
and sporting groups in Australia. For example, Crowne Plaza is the Official
Accommodation Provider to the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and the Wallabies, the V8 Supercar 00 Motorsport team, Netball Australia and Hockey
Australia (incorporating the Hockeyroos and the Kookaburras). Holiday Inn
is the Official Accommodation Provider to the National Rugby League (NRL),
Australian Football League (AFL), National Basketball League (NBL), Womens National Basketball League (WNBL), Basketball Australia and the
V8 Supercar Holden Racing Team.
