ABACUS enables electronic ticketing for five more airlines in Thailand

Travel News Asia 26 March 2003

ABACUS-connected travel agencies in Thailand will now be able to issue their customers with electronic tickets for travel on five more airlines, including United Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Northwest and China Airlines. This addition comes soon after electronic ticketing was first enabled in Thailand for flights on Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific early this month.

Thailand is the seventh market in Asia where ABACUS has implemented electronic ticketing capabilities. This addition means that ABACUS travel agents from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, New Zealand and Thailand can offer electronic ticketing services on 14 different airlines to their customers.

Electronic ticketing is a real-time method for airlines and travel agents to issue tickets. Individual ticket information is stored within the airlines reservation system and can be retrieved electronically.

ABACUS is currently working on implementing electronic ticketing capabilities in Indonesia and the Philippines.

Electronic ticketing is recognised as the ticketing option of the future, as processing a ticket in this manner is faster and more efficient as tickets can be issued online. Electronic ticketing is a cost and time efficient option for  travel agents and has been successfully implemented by carriers and travel agencies globally.
