Cathay Pacific Airways today announced that it will be the official airline for
Hong Kong International Races 2003. It is the first time that the airline has
sponsored the sport that is identified the world over with Hong Kong.
As the official airline, Cathay Pacific will fly in
world class horse trainers, jockeys and horses that will race in the Hong Kong Jockey Club meeting in
December. One race will also be named after the airline.
"Horse racing and Hong Kong have always gone together," Cathay Pacific
Director and Chief Operating Officer Philip Chen said. "We are delighted to
be able use our global network to bring top international racing talent to the
city. As the airline of Hong Kong, we always do our best to ensure that events such as the Hong Kong International Race Week get the
worldwide attention that they deserve."
Cathay Pacific has a long tradition of sponsorship international sports and
cultural events in Hong Kong. The airline earlier this year made a three-year
commitment to share joint sponsorship of the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament with Credit Suisse First Boston, starting in 2004. |
