Alliance Airlines
is to introduce an additional mid-week flight from Brisbane to Norfolk Island from Wednesday 17th September, providing new
opportunities for short-break holidays to the increasingly popular destination.
Alliance Managing Director Mr Scott McMillan said the new service, will
enable travellers to take holidays of three & four night stays, for which there
is high demand.
The airline currently offers Saturday and Sunday departures to Norfolk
Island from Brisbane and Sydney, using quiet and comfortable Fokker 100 twinjets.
The Wednesday flight, departing mid-morning, is also perfect for passengers
connecting from interstate capitals, or travelling from within South-East
Queensland or Northern NSW.
"Norfolk Island is a unique destination with a fascinating history and boasts
some great activities for short stay professionals," said Mr McMillan. "It is
populated largely by descendants of The Bounty, and has evolved from one
of Australia's most infamous penal colonies to a holiday resort with great
beaches, its own language, tax free and GST-free shopping.
"In addition to its historic attractions and quaint local customs, Norfolk
Island has broad market appeal with adventure activities including golf,
fishing, surfing, scuba diving, wind-surfing and hiking. Visitors can also
explore Norfolk's rolling hills and native bush from horseback or mountain
bike. Many of the tracks include breath-taking views.
"Our new midweek flights, together with the recent completion of quality
coastal villas and hinterland lodges, will enable more tourists to visit the
island, and bring added price competition. We will work closely with leading
tour wholesalers, to offer very attractive holiday deals."
The new Wednesday flight will depart Brisbane International Airport at
10.30am each Wednesday from 17th September, arriving on the island just over two hours later at 2.15pm local and leaving time to explore the island
after checking in at accommodation.
The return flight will leave Norfolk Island at 3.00pm on Wednesdays, arriving
in Brisbane at 4.00pm - in good time to connect with late afternoon or evening flights to interstate cities or regional
Queensland.
The new flights
are also expected to provide much needed additional cargo and mail capacity. |
