Korean Air
is to increase its flights between Incheon and Yanji from once a week to 3 times per week beginning on May 1,
2003. The airline will operate a Boeing 737-900 (188 economy seats) on
the route.
Korean Air's move to operate additional flights between Incheon and
Yanji, each on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday respectively, instead of one
weekly flight on Thursday, is due to its efforts to promote more traveling to
Mt. Bakdu and to create more business demands throughout the year.
With most airlines slashing their services to China due to the war in Iraq and
recent SARS outbreak, Korean Air's decision to expand its service for the
region came in response to increased demand for Yanji, which is located on
the north eastern part of China and currently known as a SARS-free region.
The
airline said that since the opening of the route in May 2002, the seats on this route have
been filled by 90% on average. |
