The Hong Kong Tourism Board
(HKTB) has said it warmly welcomes and supports the measures announced today by the Government in a
bid to relieve pressure caused by atypical pneumonia on travel related industries. The Board is particularly encouraged by a HK$1 billion fund set
aside for promotion of travel, exhibitions and commerce.
HKTB has been collecting ideas and suggestions from both local and
worldwide trade partners in preparation for a major comeback campaign. The Board is confident that the Government will allocate sufficient resources
for the campaign.
HKTB Chairman The Hon Mrs Selina Chow, GBS, OBE, JP, said that a wide
range of discussions have been held between the HKTB and travel trade to
consolidate ideas for the global comeback campaign. "We are prepared to
launch the new promotion as soon as the disease is under control so that
travellers will be encouraged to visit Hong Kong," she explained.
"What we need now is a stunning and effective publicity strategy that draws
the attention of global consumers and media and rebuilds their confidence.
We must provide visitors with an exciting range of things to do, so that they
will come to experience the unique and sophisticated attractions available
here and help spread the good word about Hong Kong."
"We also need to come up with a full package of valued-added offers for our
customers. This will only be possible in consultation with and support from
our trade partners locally and worldwide. Furthermore, we must enhance our existing tourism products as well as encourage shops and tourist
attractions to provide special offers."
The HKTB noted that the atypical pneumonia has caused a major impact on
Hong Kong's tourism industry. After collecting ideas and suggestions from
the trade, the HKTB is planning a series of large-scale promotions that will
last at least six months to sustain the publicity value and economic impact of
these programmes. |
