Japan Airlines (JAL) and China Eastern Airlines Corporation Ltd., have
reached an agreement to operate four round-trip freighter code-share flights
between Tokyo's Narita Airport and Shanghai from February 1st (subject to
government approval).
The two carriers will operate two round-trip flights each with JAL flying a
Boeing 747-200F freighter on Thursday and Saturday and China Eastern operating an MD-11 freighter. on Wednesday and Friday.
With the code share arrangement, JAL will have five freighter service a week
on the Tokyo-Shanghai route. In 1998 JAL inaugurated one weekly round trip
freighter flight. This increased to two in April 2002 and to three per week from
November last year. Under the agreement, two of these join the code share
with China Eastern and JAL will continue to operate one flight independently
on Monday.
