AHK Air Hong Kong Ltd. today announced that it will launch its first freighter
service to Singapore, further enhancing Hong Kong as a hub for express air
cargo in the region. The first service will depart Hong Kong this Sunday, 26
October 2003.
AHK will operate between Hong Kong and Singapore with an Airbus
A300-600F aircraft, wet leased from Islandsflug, an Icelandic operator. This
aircraft type has a payload of over 40 tonnes, which will serve the express
cargo market well, not just between the two cities but also within Asia. The
aircraft will operate a turnaround flight from Hong Kong five times a week on
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The new service is also
expected to enhance Air Hong Kong’s service for key customers including
DHL Express.
In addition to Singapore, AHK is already serving other Asian destinations
including a five-times-a-week service to Tokyo and four times a week to Bangkok. The airline also has firm orders for six new Airbus A300-600F
General Freighter aircraft, which will be delivered from the second half of
2004.
AHK Chief Operating Officer David Saechiu said: “AHK is committed to better
serve the cargo community by enhancing our network and service. This first
direct freighter service to Singapore will further enhance Hong Kong’s
position as Asia’s leading air cargo hub. At the same time, it will also
strengthen the quality of service that we already provide to DHL Express.” |
