Korean Air is joining the worldwide “Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign”.
Throughout the month of October, Korean Air employees, including flight attendants and airport staff, are wearing pink ribbons to help raise awareness
about this type of cancer. Korean Air has also specially produced booklets on
self-diagnosis of breast cancer, which are available to customers at the
Korean check-in counters.

Mr. Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Korean Air,
explained: “Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women
in developed countries, including the U.S. and European nations. It is also
becoming more prevalent among Korean women. As a good corporate citizen,
Korean Air wishes to show its support by helping to increase public awareness of cancer, and how the risks can be minimized. This initiative also
reflects our mission of caring for the well-being of society as a whole.”
Statistics show that breast cancer accounted for 16.1% of reported cancer
cases among women in Korea in 2001. One out of eight women suffers from
breast cancer worldwide, and the number of patients is increasing by 15%
annually.
Estee Lauder first launched the “Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign” in
1992 to raise public awareness about this potentially fatal condition, which is
the number one cause of death among American women. Several hundred corporations worldwide now participate in the campaign every year. |
