Countdown begins for 10th Laguna Phuket Triathlon

With only a few days until race day, Saturday 29 November, race organisers have announced a formidable pro athlete line up who will celebrate the Laguna Phuket Triathlon’s 10th birthday.

Back to defend their 2002 Laguna Phuket championship titles are Canadian Carol Montgomery (2002 Commonwealth Games champion) and Australian Craig Alexander (2003 Australian Long Course champion) up against a who’s who of the triathlon world. The impressive line-up includes one of Germany's best, Normann Stadler (4th 2003 Ironman Hawaii World championships) and American triathlon legend, veteran Scott Molina (1988 Ironman Hawaii World Champion).

Mirroring the World Cup Rugby final there will be another spectacular battle between the Australians and Brits with Aussies Simon Thompson (2002 ITU Luxembourg Champion), Miles Stewart (2000 Australian Olympian), Chris Legh (2000 Ironman California Champion), Justin and Belinda Granger (2003 Ironman Korea Champion), Joanne King (2000 & 2001 Laguna Phuket Triathlon Champion) and Rebekah Keat up against the UK's finest, Stuart Hayes (2003 Bronze ITU, Cancun), Julian Jenkinson (UK Ironman Record Holder), Michelle Dillon (2003 Bronze World ITU Cancun) and Erica Fogg.

The 400+ athletes representing 20 nationalities, will plunge in to the crystal clear water of the Andaman Sea early next Satuday morning to begin in the first leg of the grueling 1.8k swim, 55k cycle and 12k run.

Thai Tennis sensation, Tamarine Tanasugarn will be there to cheer the athletes on and she will also partake in the 10th Anniversary Sport Sunday 5k Fun Run.

New to this year's triathlon is a 5k and 10k fun run, "Meet the Pros" session, a triathlon clinic hosted by Ironman World Champion Scott Molina and a triathlon golf tournament at the Laguna Phuket Golf Club.
