Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai scoops Concierge Award

Travel News Asia 2 October 2003

Earlier this week at the Dubai Hotel Concierge of the Year 2003 Awards gala dinner, Mr Mark Corpuz, Chief Concierge of Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai was awarded winner of the "Most Customer Focused Concierge" in recognition of his outstanding service and standards.

The annual Dubai Hotel Concierge of the Year awards are a joint initiative between the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Training Department) and Wafi City, a leading shopping and leisure facility in Dubai.

More than 32 five-star properties participated in the award programme, whereby a panel of mystery guests visited each property and awarded points for specific competencies.

Commenting on the award, Mr Bernhard Haechler, General Manager, Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai said, "We are delighted to have Mark, our Chief Concierge recognized for his contribution to our team and the tourism industry. Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts worldwide are renowned for exceptional service standards and to receive this award only a few months after opening is testimony to our team's commitment to customer care."

The Shangri-La Hotel Dubai also recently opened its new Moroccan restaurant Marrakech.

Serving authentic Moroccan cuisine presented in a traditional courtyard ambience with a Moroccan trio playing live music (dinner only), the flavours and sounds of Morocco come alive under the guidance of Chef Khadijah Manar and her team. Formerly employed at the Royal Palace in Fez, Morocco, Chef Khadijah brings the famous dishes and sweets of her country to life from carefully preserved recipes.

Guests can savour a fresh choice of couscous dishes or tajine specialties baked and served in traditional ceramics; cap these off with rich desserts and refreshing mint tea poured from silver pots into tiny cups – the perfect end to an unforgettable meal.

Served in elegant surroundings that reflect the splendour of antique Maghreb, arched alcoves offer intimate seating and the carved "mashrabbiyeh" screens, antique lanterns and candelabra present an atmosphere of fine dining from the moment you enter the canopied marble archway.
