Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced a conversion plan to re-flag
The Westin Chiangmai to Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel in November 2003. The
property has embarked on a US$1.5 million renovation program in order to
showcase its brand new look with this new name. Located on Mae Ping River, in the historic city of Chiangmai, Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel is a
contemporary oasis surrounded by 13th century temples and treasures. The
property is an ideal base for exploring Thailand's "Rose of the North" - the
city of Chiangmai.
"Starwood has a long term 10-year partnership with Chiangmai Riverside
Plaza Hotel Company, the owning company of the property, and we are pleased to continue our co-operation to position Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel
as one of the leading hotels in the destination," stated Peter Thompson, Vice
President and Area Managing Director of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in
Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau. "Chiangmai has been growing in popularity with groups and leisure travelers and we will be well-positioned to
cater to their accommodation needs with our new-look Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel" added Thompson.
Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel is just an hour away by flight from Bangkok and a
10 minute drive from the Chiangmai International Airport. Chiangmai is an
attractive destination for meetings and incentive groups and leisure travelers
as it offers a cool respite from the city bustle as well as a wide range of
attractions and activities, such as golf, tennis, river rafting, jungle exploration
and elephant safari.
Upon completion of its renovation, the Sheraton Chiangmai Hotel will feature
526 spacious deluxe guestrooms and suites, elegantly furnished with fine
teak and exotic carpets. For travelers on business or leisure, every guestroom is equipped with the latest technology including multiple data port
to ease internet access, direct-dial telephone and voice mail messaging system.
