Khalid A Bin Sulayem, director general of Dubai's Department of Tourism
and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is scheduled to join more than 100 members of the UAE's hotel and catering sectors at the launch of the UAE
chapter of the Hotel & Catering International Management Association
(HCIMA) later today at the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
Bin Sulayem is expected to kick off the first HCIMA meeting, which is geared
to promote HCIMA membership among industry professionals, with an overview of the growth surge experienced by the tourism and hospitality
sectors in Dubai and the UAE over the past decade. HCIMA
has more than 18,000 members worldwide. Robert Fadel, HCIMA UAE
chairman commented : "The HCIMA promotes the highest professional standards of management and education in the
international hospitality industry.
"It was established in 1971, and aims to bring together individuals from all
sectors of the hospitality industry - hotels, contract catering, restaurants,
fast food, pubs and clubs, hospitals, education, armed forces and the teaching profession.
"We are now poised to develop a
strong HCIMA chapter here in the UAE."
Fadel said that the aim is to enrol more than 200 members in the UAE during
2003.
The HCIMA Launch Meeting is scheduled for
this evening (March, 18 2003) at the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management,
