The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing
(DTCM) is participating for the third consecutive year at the Mediterranean Travel Fair
(MTF), which begins Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, (16th -18th September). The
Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund
(IMF) meeting in September in Dubai is taking a center stage at the emirate
stand during the three-day event, hosting participants from 35 countries.
DTCM Executive Overseas Promotions, Saleh Al Geziry said, the department's
decision to participate in this prestigious event reflects our commitment to
attract the regional trade and travel market to the emirate. "We feel that by
nurturing tourism and trade ties with Egypt, we will not only boost the region's
travel trade business but will also be helping the Middle East to hold a
formidable position on the world tourism map. In addition to this, Cairo
exhibition will serve as a platform to build up new significant ties with other
participating countries," said Mr. Geziry.
Mr. Geziry said that Dubai team comprises of six co-participants and will be
promoting numerous high profile events and projects, which are scheduled to
take place in the emirate : "Our main focus will be on IMF and World Bank
meeting, which will take Dubai to new heights of accomplishments in the MICE
(Meeting, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibition) sector. Dubai Convention
Bureau, Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai Summer Surprises, Palm islands,
GITEX, Air Show will be prominently highlighted. All these events will witness
a galaxy of world leaders in different fields - politics, arts, science and
technology assembled at one place that is Dubai," he detailed.
He noted that Dubai has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of
visitors from Egypt, which gives us more reason to participate in the fair. "In
2001 the number of hotel and hotel apartments guests was 66,458, which in
2002 shot up by 17. 3 per cent as their number swelled to 78,389," revealed Mr.
Al Geziry.
He said that the Dubai stand, which occupies an area of 24 sq.m is in the
shape of a local fort. "The ambiance of our stand will be ethnic and traditional
but as you proceed, it will be exposed to all the modern state of the art
facilities, which can be expected from any world-class destination," said Mr.
Geziry.
Mr. Geziry further stated that the Dubai delegation has extended invitation to
decision makers from the travel trade industry, tourism companies specialised
in conferences and exhibitions and media to its stand. |
