Finnair will fly direct from Helsinki to Miami, Florida next winter. The
route will be operated twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays from October
23, 2003 to March 28, 2004 with an MD-11 aircraft.
"We now have the possibility to direct our MD-11 capacity to Miami because
demand on our Beijing route is not expected to support all the capacity planned earlier for the route during the winter and our new route to
Shanghai increases our capacity in China from last year. We will fly to Miami
next winter, but after the winter season we will be redirecting capacity back
to our Asian operations, which is in line with our long-haul strategy. We
hope that by then demand in Asia which has been rapidly growing, will have
returned to its normal levels," says VP Network Strategy and Planning Petteri
Kostermaa.
Finnair previously flew to Miami all year round from winter 1992-1996 and to
Fort Lauderdale in 1998-2000. In winters 2000-2002 Florida was not on the
winter schedule. |
