SilkAir signs on to Abacus' FareX

Travel News Asia 16 December 2003

Regional carrier SilkAir has signed on to Abacus FareX, Abacus International's integrated net fares management and distribution solution.

The Singapore-based carrier's decision to adopt the solution earlier this month, will effectively enable the airline to distribute fare information more quickly, efficiently and accurately to its travel agents.

"With Abacus FareX, SilkAir's net fares will be available directly on the Abacus Reservation System to all Abacus travel agents, and on the website for Non-Abacus travel agents. What this means is that the agents are now able to quote fares accurately without having to go through stacks of fare sheets which may carry outdated fare information, " said Mr John Lim, Director, Fares and Loyalty Programme at Abacus International Pte Ltd.

Today, valuable time is spent on preparing fare sheets for different channels of distribution. Abacus FareX provides an airline with greater control over its net fares with real-time update and distribution ensuring faster delivery of fares information to all channels - travel agents, corporate agents and websites. Hence this allows airline to respond quickly to critical market situations and competition. Moreover with the validation of rule conditions in fare pricing, it provides confidence to airlines' travel agents in auto-pricing and ticketing their net fares. This will significantly reduce issuance of Airline Debit Memos.

"Adopting Abacus' FareX solution will help us reach out to our travel agents better and maximise sales. The solution enables us to better manage the distribution of net fares, providing us with a competitive edge over other players in the industry. Our goal is to be the Asia's Preferred Leisure airline and with the help of partners such as Abacus we are confident that we can achieve our goal." Goh Boon Hwee, Manager, SilkAir.
