Amadeus ups Hong Kong presence

Travel News Asia 15 July 2003

Amadeus Asia today announced that it is opening a new, wholly-owned office in Hong Kong at the end of August, this year.

Mr. David Brett, President of Amadeus Asia Ltd. said, "We will invest around five and a half million dollars to develop the market, upgrading our customer service capabilities, and establishing within new premises a world-class Help Desk service." He said the General Manager for the Hong Kong office would be appointed later this month, and that Mr. Dan Devane, one of Amadeus' most experienced Help Desk managers would take up a position in Hong Kong immediately. Called 'Amadeus Hong Kong Ltd.', the office will have a staff of around 20 people.

Mr. Timothy Russell, Director, Market Management, Amadeus Asia Ltd., said, "For the last eight years Amadeus customers have been served by a local agent. In the increasingly competitive market environment we realize that service quality will be one of the most important differentiators. After reviewing the substantial, long-term investments needed to increase our service levels we decided that establishing a wholly-owned Amadeus subsidiary would be the best way to allow us to mobilize the large amount of funds and resources necessary to fulfill our plans."

He said Amadeus hoped to grow its market share in Hong Kong behind higher service levels.

Mr. Russell said, "We appreciate the many years of good work that our local agent, TicTas Ltd., has done to build up the Amadeus presence in Hong Kong. With the end of our representation contract, we both agreed that this would be an appropriate time for Amadeus to establish its own offices in Hong Kong".

Amadeus is one of Asia's fastest growing and largest travel reservations system with a presence in 32 countries and territories in Asia Pacific, as well as almost 700 staff in the region.
