In response to the request by the Hong Kong Red Cross to assist those
affected by the earthquakes in Gansu province last month, Dragonair has
said it will
donate its services and airlift some 2,300kg of relief supplies destined for the
region.
Dragonair will fly the supplies of quilts and clothing, valued at $81,000, to
Beijing on November 10. They will then be transported from there to
Gansu.
"We hope our efforts with the Hong Kong Red Cross will help relieve the
suffering of some of the 137,000 people affected by the two earthquakes that
hit Gansu province on October 25," said Laura Crampton, Assistant General
Manager, Corporate Communication.
According to official reports, the tremors, which measured 6.1 and 5.8 on the
Richter scale, killed nine people and injured 43.
This is the fourth shipment of relief supplies that Dragonair has flown into
the China Mainland this year. The three previous shipments, valued at $661,800 in total, have been for those affected by the flooding that took place
over the summer in the provinces of Shaanxi, Henan and Sichuan. |
