Travel News Asia 10 October 2003

The St. Regis Shanghai management recently organized a “Run Up, Clean Up and Build Up a Great City” activity to promote cleanliness of the environment and healthy lifestyle. The hotel invited hotel associates, guests, local government representatives and students from Yang Jing Secondary School to participate in this activity by cleaning up the neighborhood of the hotel as well as walk or run up the 40 storeys of the hotel.

The “Run Up, Clean Up and Build Up a Great City” fun activity is part of the events organized under The St. Regis Community Service Campaign. Through partnerships with various local organizations, the hotel hopes to encourage guests and staff to become involved in helping the community, and assisting in the landscaping, cleanliness, health, education and overall welfare of the residents of the community. This campaign is also congruent with the Shanghai’s Theme for World Expo “Better City, Better Life”.

“As an international management company, we have always adopted a culture of caring not only for our guests and associates, but also for the community we are in. Through this fun run and clean up activities, we hope to remind our associates the importance of taking care of the environment we are in. Our associates devote a lot of time to their work, we would also like to encourage them to take care of their health through exercise, “says Charles Abbott, General Manager of The St. Regis Shanghai.

Students who participated in this activity are also recipients of the hotel’s annual Scholarships Award for needy and talented students of the Yang Jing Secondary School. All participants including the students took some time to clean up the roads and neighbourhood of the hotel. After the clean up and a quick rest, they continued with a fun walk or run up the 40 storeys of the hotel.
