Thai Airways International, in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and the
Office for the Promotion of Small and Medium Size Enterprises, has launched
a “Bangkok: the Fashion Haven” campaign to promote Bangkok as the regional fashion
centre of Asia.
On this occasion, THAI’s cabin attendants will take to
the catwalk to model outfits and products from the One Tambon One Product
(OTOP) project. The campaign will be launched on 15 October 2003 at Bangkok International Airport, on THAI’s flights between Bangkok and
Phuket, and at Phuket International Airport.
THAI’s President, Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, said that the national carrier has
continued to represent the best of Thai culture and heritage. The “Bangkok:
the Fashion Haven” campaign is part of the government policy to promote
local designers and manufacturers in the fashion industry, providing them
with an opportunity to upgrade their products and designs, and to expand
their market. The campaign also attempts to create brand awareness of Thai
labels in the international market, as well as improve their competitive edge,
with the aim of making Bangkok a fashion center of the world in addition to
Paris, New York, London, Rome, Milan, and Tokyo.
A number of THAI cabin attendants who used to be professional models, such
as Navaporn (Gajaseni) Chamdermpadejsuek and former Priew Supermodel Chornapa Rakboonyuang, will be teaching their colleagues how to walk and
pose. Together they will then present a collection of outfits made by Thai
designers from locally made fabrics under the Otop project.
THAI is also supporting the Government in other activities related to the
“Bangkok: the Fashion Haven” campaign, including offering air tickets for
models from 21 countries to model Thai outfits at the upcoming APEC Summit
attended by leaders of 21 economies and their spouses. In addition, THAI staff
from various departments will be taking part in a fashion show of traditional
Thai costumes at the APEC CEO Summit 2003 gala dinner on 19 October 2003
at the BEC Tero Hall, Suanlum Night Bazaar. |
