BOC Aviation, a Singapore-based lessor, has placed a
firm order with Airbus for 20 A320neo aircraft.
A minimum of ten and up to twelve of the A320neo
aircraft have been committed for lease to Avianca based in Bogota,
Colombia.
“We are pleased that BOC Aviation is further
expanding its already large A320neo position with this innovative
transaction with Avianca, illustrating the beneficial role large
aircraft lessors play in modern aviation finance,” said Christian
Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.
With a fleet of 175 aircraft, Avianca currently
serves 76 destinations in 27 countries within the Americas and
Europe.
The company has more than 21,000 employees, earned
US$4.8 billion in 2018 and transported 30.5 million passengers.
“We are thrilled to welcome Avianca as a new
customer, and we congratulate the airline on its 100th
anniversary,” said Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief
Executive Officer, BOC Aviation. “This addition of 20 new Airbus
A320neo aircraft reflects our disciplined investment strategy of
building our portfolio with popular and in-demand new technology
aircraft that provide reliability and operational efficiency. With
this order, this brings our total Airbus aircraft purchased since
inception to 470 aircraft. We are proud to continue building on
our long-standing relationship with Airbus.”
