Amadeus is to help Mastercard and other leading
academic and industry partners to co-create, pilot, and scale
solutions to the most pressing urban challenges around the world.
City Possible was launched by Mastercard in 2018
as a co-creation initiative designed to provide city leaders with
a platform to harness insights and solutions with academia and the
private sector to make cities safer, healthier, sustainable and
more inclusive.
Some notable partners include Technology and
Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard University (TECH), the United
Nations Global Compact, IDEMIA, Here Technologies and Willis
Towers Watson, in addition to the community of over 40 global
cities.
“We recognize that meaningful change will require
a fundamental shift in the way city and business leaders work
together, so we established City Possible to enable public-private
collaboration,” said Miguel Gamino, Executive Vice President and
Head of Global Cities at Mastercard. “With Amadeus’ heritage in
travel and tourism technology, and their ongoing focus on
innovation, they will help our network of cities tackle one of the
biggest present challenges – urban mobility.”
In 2018, Amadeus launched a new Smart Cities
initiative and dedicated task force in Asia Pacific, to help
integrate new technology with existing infrastructure to improve
mobility for residents, commuters and tourists.
“Inclusive mobility should be the cornerstone of
any city’s plans for the future – to ensure that existing
transport systems continue to work for everyone,” said Simon
Akeroyd, Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business
Development, Asia Pacific at Amadeus. “We’re passionate about
using our expertise in travel technology to help cities modernize
their infrastructure and becoming a City Possible partner now
allows us to do this on a bigger scale.”
