One of Korean Airs volunteer groups was in the city of Tondano in Indonesia from 22-29
January, to help a local community there.
Tondano is a small city about 35 kilometers away
from Manado, the capital city of the Indonesian province of North
Sulawesi, located on the island of Sulawesi, the 11th largest
island in the world.
Tondano is located on a basin formed by volcanic
activities and is surrounded by mountains. Due to its
environmental conditions, the city suffers from poor energy supply
and a lack of adequate social infrastructure. Most residents make a living through
farming.
Korean Air employees have been building orphanage
dormitories in the region with the local residents since 2016, and
have so far completed constructing one dormitory building.
This
year, Korean Air employees constructed the foundation for the
second dormitory, and performed various other volunteer work such as
planting durian trees to help the orphanage become more
self-sufficient.
Korean Air has a very impressive CSR programme. In 2019, the airline helped rebuild the Sri Lankan
neighborhood damaged by the heavy floods, and donated playground
facilities and medicines to an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal.
