The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expanded its
WhatsApp service to those who speak Arabic, French and Spanish.
The easy-to-use messaging service, which was
already available in English, has the potential to reach 2 billion
people and enables the WHO to get information directly into the hands
of those that want it.
The messaging service will provide subscribers
with the latest
news and information on the COVID19 pandemic, including details on symptoms
and how people can protect themselves and others.
It also provides
the latest situation reports and numbers in real-time to help
government decision-makers protect the health of their
populations.
The service can be accessed by a link that opens a
conversation on WhatsApp. Users can simply type “hi”, "salut", "hola"
or "مرحبا" to activate the conversation, prompting a menu of
options that can help answer their questions about COVID19.
