American Airlines is to operate seven special
flights between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and four Latin American
cities so that it can help to bring customers home in light of
government travel restrictions related to the ongoing COVID19
pandemic.
The flights, from São Paulo (GRU) to DFW and from
Honduras to DFW, will commence today, 26 March 2020.
The special flights are available
for purchase with capped fares, to ensure that customers
are able to take advantage of the service.
The airline will
operate the following flights on 26 and 27 March:
Flight 540 is scheduled to depart from Tegucigalpa
(TGU), Honduras, at 13:54 and land at DFW at 18:34.
Flight 2192 is scheduled to depart from Roatán
(RTB), Honduras, at 14:10 and land at DFW at 18:46.
Flight 2210 is scheduled to depart from San Pedro
Sula (SAP), Honduras, at 14:25 and land at DFW at 19:05.
The airline will operate
the following flight on 28 March:
Flight 962 is scheduled to depart from São Paulo
(GRU), Brazil, at 22:45 and land at DFW at 07:10 the following
day.
The flights between DFW
and GRU will also provide much needed cargo-capacity for pharmaceuticals, electronics
and produce.
Flights from DFW to GRU are also available for
purchase to assist in getting Brazilian citizens home, with
flights operating on 27 March.
This week, American Airlines operated
charters for the U.S. State Department from both Guatemala City,
Guatemala (GUA), and Lima, Peru (LIM), to get U.S. residents home.
To further assist customers, American flew 71 ferry flights to the
U.S. from several Caribbean destinations, including 14 flights
from Montego Bay (MBJ) and three flights from Kingston (KIN) in
Jamaica; five flights from Santo Domingo (SDQ), nine flights from
Punta Cana (PUJ), one flight from Santiago (STI) and one flight
from Puerto Plata (POP) in the Dominican Republic; four flights
from Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP); 12 flights from Aruba (AUA);
three flights from Bonaire (BON); three flights from Curaçao
(CUR); six flights from St. Maarten (SXM); eight flights from St.
Lucia (UVF); one flight from Guadeloupe (PTP); and one flight from
Martinique (FDF). Ferry flights flew without passengers to these
islands and returned with customers looking to return home to the
United States.
American Airlines has also extended its offer to waive change
fees for customers who purchase travel through 15 April. Customers
will have even more flexibility since any ticket purchased by
15 April will not incur change fees prior to travel. The offer is
available for any of American’s published non-refundable fares. Any ticket purchased from
1 March at 16:30
CT through 15 April 2020 at 23:59 CT will not incur
change fees prior to travel. This is available for any of
American’s non-refundable published fares.
