The first tangible sign that Perth Airport is
being transformed for the future will get underway next month with
Perkins Builders awarded the contract to replace the stairs and
single head aerobridges with new ramps and lifts at Terminal 1
International’s gates 52, 53 and 54.
Once complete, international travellers will no
longer face the
inconvenience of having to walk down stairs to get to their
flights with the new aerobridges set to deliver greater efficiency
for airline partners and a vastly improved boarding experience for
passengers.
“This next wave of investment
will upgrade the
international terminal and bring all flight services into one
central aviation hub, delivering an airport that has the amenity,
capacity and efficiency to deliver passengers a seamless, quality
travel experience,” said Perth Airport CEO, Kevin Brown. “The construction of the
ramps and lifts will be delivered in stages with one gate at a
time decommissioned for about four to five months.
Construction will start in March 2020 and is scheduled to be
completed by June 2021. Once complete, we know that not
only our passengers will see the difference, but our airline
partners will also benefit from greater efficiencies.”
The project will replace the current single head aerobridges
with dual head aerobridges which will facilitate faster turnaround times and an improved product for airline partners operating from
those gates.
