Deliveroo has launched a Rider Academy in Hong
Kong.
The online academy will offer its 5,000 riders and
their families access to over 700 online courses as they stay home
amidst the additional safe distancing measures announced by the
government.
Suitable for ages 16 and above, the free courses are
offered through online education platform OpenClassrooms, a unique
educational platform offering hundreds of online classes.
Users
can train on a wide array of skills, including CV building,
design, marketing, entrepreneurship and IT. Course offerings
vary in length, ranging from one hour to several months.
Through Rider Academy, Deliveroo will give all
riders and walkers in Hong Kong access to OpenClassrooms for free.
This no-cost access will also be extended to riders’ dependents –
to extend the educational benefits even further.
Anyone who
completes a course will receive a Certificate of Achievement,
which they can display on their CV to enhance future job
prospects.
Anis Yusof, a 24 year-old Singapore rider who has
completed a course under Rider Academy, said, “Through OpenClassrooms, I took up a Microsoft Office course, which was
really helpful in my daily work. I learned more about the software
interface, as well as how to use various tools. I’m very grateful
to Deliveroo for this opportunity."
Brian Lo, General Manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong,
said, “With more riders’ families inside at home during this
period, we wanted to enable them to have the option of online
learning. We know that many of our riders ride with us to support
a long-term ambition, and online learning is a great way to pick
up new skills, while still being able to ride with Deliveroo when
and where they want. While everyone is likely to have some more
downtime at home we want to make sure we support both riders and
their loved ones as much as we can.”
