AirAsia has unveiled plans to launch direct
flights between Penang and Chengdu, the capital city of
Sichuan Province in China.
The airline will launch the thrice weekly flights
on 8 March 2020.
Flight AK2262 is scheduled to depart from Penang
on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 22:55, arriving in Chengdu
at 02:55.
From Chengdu, flight AK2263 is timed to depart on
Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays at 03:55, arriving in Penang at
08:15.
AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Riad Asmat, said, “We are
excited to announce our first new route of the new year, welcoming
Visit Malaysia 2020 and in conjunction with Experience Penang
2020. Penang is one of our largest secondary hubs in Peninsular
Malaysia, to which we have flown more than 2.4 million guests to
the island last year. This is our first route from Penang to
Mainland China and we are confident this additional route will
continue to boost visitor arrivals into Penang, and vice versa.”
Besides Chengdu, AirAsia currently flies to the
following twelve destinations from its Penang hub: Bangkok, Ho Chi
Minh (Saigon), Surabaya, Jakarta, Medan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur,
Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
