HK7s and Singapore Sevens Rescheduled

World Rugby has confirmed that the Hong Kong and Singapore rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020 have been rescheduled from April in response to continued health concerns relating to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Both events have now been rescheduled to conclude the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020 with the HSBC Singapore Sevens taking place on 10-11 October and the Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, regarded by many as the greatest rugby sevens event in the world, completing the series on 16-18 October.

Hong Kong and Singapore will host HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2021 tournaments as per usual in April.

It is the first time in the tournament’s 45-year history that the Hong Kong Sevens will be played outside of its traditional spring window.

Robbie McRobbie, Chief Executive Officer at the HKRU, said, “We are confident that the move to October will ensure a very unique and special 45th Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, and we look forward to once again welcoming the rugby world to Hong Kong.”

Fans who have purchased tickets for Singapore and Hong Kong via official channels are advised that their tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled events and a full refund will be provided in the event fans are unable to attend the rescheduled events.

In a statement issued on Thursday, World Rugby said, "The health and safety of our players, fans and everyone working on the event is always our highest priority. This prudent decision has been taken in order to help protect the global rugby community and the wider public and was taken based on the World Health Organisation and relevant public authority travel and health guidelines. The decision is fully supported by stakeholders, including unions and commercial partners."

In light of the rescheduled dates, the Hong Kong Sevens public ticket ballot will no longer be drawn this week. Those who have successfully entered the draw prior to the close of registration will be offered an opportunity to extend their entry to a subsequent ballot for the October event.
