The Eaton hotel in Hong Kong has received
EarthCheck Certified Gold status for 2020.
This is the second year running Eaton HK has
received Gold status and follows Eaton winning four prestigious
environmental accolades in short succession: the 2019 HICAP
Sustainable Hotel Award for Positive Community Impact, the 39th
Annual Gold Key Award for Best Eco or Socially Conscious Hotel,
The HKMA Hong Kong Sustainability Award Certificate of Excellence
2018/19, and LEED v4 Gold Certification for interior design and
construction.
“I am tremendously proud of the hard work our team
at Eaton HK and our partners have put into attaining these vital
environmental performance benchmarks and accolades over the past
year,” said Managing Director Dirk Dalichau. “Sustainability has
been a foundational value of our new Eaton brand since the very
beginning. From removing all single-use plastics and straws to
prioritizing sustainably sourced and plant-based nutrition, we
believe that hospitality plays a big role in making our world a
better place, one initiative at a time.”
The Eaton hotel in Hong Kong is one of the most
forward thinking properties in the region, and was one of the very
first to install a bottling facility on-site so that it could do
away with single-use plastic bottles. To date, Eaton HK has saved 1.3 million plastic
bottles and straws from the landfill.
Further eco-conscious
measures have been taken by the property in the last year,
including the removal of threatened fish species such as shark’s
fin and bluefin tuna from Eaton HK’s menus.
The property’s
eco-conscious F&B initiatives continue in the form of the
introduction of compostable takeaway boxes and placement of
complimentary water dispensers in public areas.
Recycling bins placed in hotel rooms have resulted
in 70% of trash disposed of by guests being recycled, while
paperless check-in and check-out saves 250,000 pieces of A4 paper
each year.
Rooms have also been upgraded to include 100%
all-natural latex mattresses as well as large-format,
non-disposable bottles of certified organic toiletries by Grown
Alchemist.
