Forty green sea turtles were released into the wild
from the beach in front of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa
on Saturday, in
celebration of H. M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn
Bodindradebayavarangkun's birthday.
The sea turtles, which are seen as a symbol of
longevity, will now live in the ocean.
The turtles were hatched from
eggs and collected by the Third Naval Area Command from Similan 1
Island. They were nurtured and raised before they were releases by
the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) and Sea Turtles
Conservation Center, Phang Nga Naval Base.
All monies
raised through donations during the event, went towards supporting
the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and its partners: The Phuket
Marine Biological Centre’s injured Turtle Rehabilitation Program
and the Third Naval Area Command’s Turtle Hatchery Program.
Mr.
Matthias Y.
Sutter, General Manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa
