SAS has confirmed that, after a 12-year
gap, it will reinstate year-round flights to Bardufoss, effective
1 February 2020.
The airline will operate three daily flights
between Bardufoss and Oslo with Boeing 737 aircraft with plans to
phase in its more environmentally friendly Airbus 320 neo on the
route from next autumn.
"Not only will the Norwegian Armed Forces’
personnel and their families and friends benefit from SAS’ flight
offering, we will also be making this beautiful region in Norway
accessible for the international market via SAS’ and Star
Alliance’s extensive route network," said Torbjørn Wist, CFO at
SAS.
Bardufoss, which is just an hour’s drive from
beautiful Senja island, is surrounded by stunning countryside,
often described as Norway in miniature. It offers fantastic skiing
opportunities in winter, and spectacular mountain hiking in the
summer season. Norway’s national waterfall, Målselvfossen, offers
great fishing, and you can visit Northern Europe’s longest salmon
run, Polar Zoo, and take an invigorating dip at Polarbadet water
park in characteristic Målselv mountain village.
