Cambodia Travel Mart 2019 - Interview with
Hosted Buyer, May Yap
May Yap, the Contracting Director of Malaysia's
Asian Overland Services Tours & Travel SDN. BHD. was one of the
hosted buyers at the Cambodia Travel Mart 2019 in Phnom Penh
earlier this month.
Steven Howard of TravelNewsAsia.com sat down
with May on Sunday, the last day of the travel trade show, to ask
her whether the event had met her expectations and how she would like
to see it improve in the future.
May tells us why Asian
Overland Services was attending the Cambodia Travel Mart, how it
fits in with the company's expansion plans, and which other
travel trade shows they attend.
With so much competition, May gives us some
insights into how Asian Overland Services is evolving, and which
markets they are concentrating on the most.
We discuss the quantity and quality of sellers
that May was able to meet at CTM2019, and you will learn why she
feels that more 3, 4 and 5-star hotels, as well as local DMCs,
need to support the event in future.
May also share some ideas on how the Cambodia
Travel Mart, as well as other trade shows, can use technology to
better communicate with delegates. For instance, at around 8:40,
May suggests that organisers give delegates a mobile phone or
beeper, but after the interview had finished May clarified that
what she had meant is using WhatsApp Groups to communicate with
delegates about shuttle services, functions, meetings, and any
updates that delegates need to be aware of.
We also talk about the pre and post-mart tours,
and May highlights why they are so important to a buyer's
understanding of the marketplace. All that and much, much more in the HD video
and podcast below.
