Sonu Shivdasani, the Guardian of the Culture
(CEO & Joint Creative Director) for Soneva, is to receive the
HICAP Innovation Award.
Sonu Shivdasani was born and studied largely in
England, with some periods of his education being in Nigeria and
Switzerland. He is an alumnus of Eton College and a graduate of
Oxford University, where he received a MA in English Literature.
Together with his wife Eva, he founded Soneva
Fushi in 1995 in Maldives, pioneering the trend for back to
nature luxury holidays.
The Shivdasanis also established the
Soneva Foundation, a not-for-profit organization committed to
supporting the development and operation of projects and campaigns
that have a positive environmental, social and economic impact.
The HICAP Innovation Award was created to
recognize and
celebrate an individual or company who has created innovative
products, services, ideas, or processes that have enhanced,
expanded, or advanced the hospitality and tourism industries in
the region and beyond.
Adding to its special nature, the HICAP
Innovation Award is not
given out every year. Prior recipients of the HICAP Innovation
Award include: Tony Fernandes, Group CEO, AirAsia Berhad; James B.
Sherwood, Founder & Chairman Emeritus, Orient Express Hotels Ltd;
Sheldon G. Adelson, Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive
Officer, Las Vegas Sands Corp; The Founders of WATG - Jerry
Allison, Don Goo & Greg Tong; the Founders of Regent International
- Robert Burns, George Rafael, and Adrian Zecha; Sol Kerzner,
Founder and Chairman, Kerzner International; and Ho Kwon Ping,
Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Holdings.
Mr. Shivdasani will be presented with the
award at the 30th annual HICAP scheduled to take place at the
Kerry Hotel Hong Kong 23-25 October 2019.
