Avion Group, a Dutch-based manufacturer of civil
flight simulators and an operator of flight training centers, has
appointed Erik Varwijk as CEO.
Erik Varwijk has many years of airline
industry experience, having worked as Managing Director and member of the
Managing Board of KLM, member of the Air France KLM Group
Executive Committee and EVP Commercial at Virgin Atlantic.
Erik Varwijk said, “Avion Group has launched the
state-of-the-art Airbus Phantom 320 Full Flight Simulator and I
look forward to bringing cost efficient and effective pilot
training to the doorsteps of our customers.”
Erik
Varwijk succeeds Bart Slager, who has decided to pursue his career
outside Avion Group.
Remco van
den Heuvel, Managing Partner of Private Equity firm 5square and
priority shareholder of Avion Group, said, “Bart Slager did an
excellent job at ensuring the successful launch of the Airbus
Phantom 320 simulator and we are grateful for his contribution
over the past years. We trust Erik Varwijk to be the right person
to lead Avion Group into the next phase of becoming a successful
actor in the training market for civil aviation.”
In addition to the above, Barry Miedema has been appointed
as advisor to the Group. Barry Miedema is Captain on the Boeing
737 for KLM and has been Vice President Crew training and HoT for
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
