The 137 Pillars Suites & Residences
Bangkok, located on Sukhumvit Soi 39 in the heart of the Thai
capital, will next month host a very unique art fair.
Scheduled to take place 8-10 June 2018, the
Hotel Art Fair Bangkok (HAFB), now in its 5th year, will see some
of Thailands most established and upcoming artists completely
take over 34 suites spread across 6 floors to showcase, and sell, as
much of their work as they can.
HAFB is a clever initiative that was created by
Farmgroup, a Bangkokbased creative and design consultancy, for
artists to reach more art lovers in a fun and warm location,
rather than in a cold and uninspiring setting such as a convention centre.
Some 32 galleries and artists, including
well-known names such as Joan Cornell from Spain, the g13 Gallery
from Malaysia and WE Gallery from Shenzhen, China, as well as
popular local artists such as Pomme Chan, Atty Tantivit and
Viranod Buranasiri, will be taking part in the event.
In total, it is estimated that there will be
around 500 pieces of artwork on display, and for sale, in the
suites.
In 2017 the event attracted 2,964 visitors, both
Thai and foreigners, and even more are expected this year.
Ex-banker, Viranod Buranasiri will use the HAFB 2018 to showcase
his colourful paintings which he describes as "abstract
expressionism". He will take over one suite entirely for his own
work and plans to display about 35 new pieces.
He said, "I am thrilled to be participating in
the 2018 Hotel Art Fair Bangkok and even more excited that it is
taking place at such a luxurious property which should help to
encourage a lot of potential buyers to visit. It's also great to
see the work of so many other hugely talented artists. It's very
inspirational!"
It's not just Thailand's artists that will
showcase their art during HAFB; some artists are flying in from
overseas.
Spanish cartoonist and illustrator Joan Cornell
is no stranger to Asia and has exhibited his work in the region on
numerous occasions. He will showcase about 20 new pieces of art.
He said, "What a great way to showcase and sell
art! Unlike a regular gallery, guests will have 6 floors and 34
suites to explore, each with different types of art on display.
How exciting. The fact that it is taking place at 137 Pillars
Suites & Residences Bangkok is just icing on the cake, and I am
hoping to be able to enjoy a dip in their amazing rooftop pool
while I am there. I can't wait!"
The event is by invitation only on 8 June and
opens up to the public on 9 and 10 June from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and
is free of charge to visit.
Mr.
Bjorn Richardson, General Manager of 137
Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok, said, "To have 32 galleries
and artists displaying their creative genius under one roof is
such a great idea. To be able to see artwork from famous and
upcoming artists, both local and from overseas, all in one place
means that art lovers and prospective buyers can park their cars
downstairs, enjoy a nice leisurely lunch, study the art they like,
meet the artist or gallery owner and even have a relaxing massage
once they've finished without even leaving the building! I have
heard of quite a lot of the artists that will take part and I am
really looking forward to meeting them in person. I'm also hoping
to pick up a bargain or two to take home!"
