Rosewood Hong Kong has appointed Simon Gilkes as
Director of Sales and Marketing.
In this role, Mr Gilkes will
implement comprehensive sales and marketing strategies as part of
the pre-opening team for the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, based out
of Hong Kong.
Having forged a career in hospitality over the past
18 years, he joins from sbe London (formally Morgans Hotel Group)
where he oversaw 3 hotels in London as the Regional Director of
Sales & Marketing.
Mr Gilkes began his upward trajectory in
hospitality as part of the Manager-in- Development Programme at
The Boca Raton Resort and Club upon graduating from the University
of Surrey. He then relocated to New York City and joined The
Regency New York, an Entertainment-focused property, in 1999,
where he held the positions of Assistant Manager for Front of
House and Sales Service Manager.
In 2001, with his experience gained from
frontline operations, he stepped into the field of sales by
joining The Drake New York as Sales Manager, responsible for
Entertainment and Corporate Sales segments. Joining the historic
St. Regis New York as Director of Corporate and Travel Industry
Sales in 2003, Mr Gilkes developed significant accounts such as
American Express and Virtuoso. He scooped the coveted accolade of
“Top 10 Sales Manager” of Starwood Hotels and Resorts in 2004.
After spending over 8 years in the United
States, he returned to his city of origin to take up the role of
Director of Corporate and Leisure Sales at The Savoy London, where
he was promoted to Director of Sales in 2007 and was responsible
for the relaunch of the hotel following its landmark 3-year
closure and restoration. Joining the pre-opening team of Mondrian
London at Sea Containers in 2012 as Director of Sales & Marketing,
prior to joining Rosewood Hong Kong, Gilkes transitioned to sbe
London (formally Morgans Hotel Group) to oversee 3 hotels in
London as Regional Director of Sales & Marketing.
