The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC
Sydney) is to bring netball to the heart of the city when it hosts
two games of the Suncorp Super Netball premier league this season.
The matches are set to take place at the
multipurpose, state-of-the-art ICC Sydney Theatre. It will be the
first ever time netball is played at the venue.
ICC Sydney will welcome the prestigious national
league’s first Indigenous Round with a match between GIANTS
Netball vs NSW Swifts on Sunday, 8 July – the first day of NAIDOC
Week. This will be followed by a round between the GIANTS Netball vs West Coast Fever on Saturday, 4 August.
NSW Minister for
Finance, Services and Property, Victor Dominello MP said, “ICC Sydney is the
centrepiece of the A$3.4 billion, 20-hectare transformation of
Darling Harbour and it continues to draw people from around the
city - and the world – through its doors, demonstrating its world
class capabilities and endless versatility. The venue also
features a range of pre-and post-game entertainment options
including onsite and precinct-wide dining and meeting options, so
it is the ideal location for a much-loved event such as the Suncorp Super Netball.”
CEO of ICC Sydney,
Geoff Donaghy said ICC Sydney is looking forward to impressing
sports fans once again after attracting a sell-out crowd to the
Fast4 Tennis Showdown last year when Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios
took to the court.
“The range of events we deliver reflects
the diverse capabilities of our integrated facilities and the ICC
Sydney Theatre is the perfect size to accommodate Sydney’s netball
audience. We are proud to be able to transform the 8,000
seat Theatre into a hub for netball fans and showcase its
innovative, tiered and fan shaped layout, which will bring
spectators closer to the action,” Donaghy said. “Our entire
business is committed to acknowledging and celebrating the
heritage and cultures of Sydney’s First Nations and we are
honoured to support Netball NSW efforts to recognise the valued
contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women
have made, and continue to make, to the wider community.”
The court-side experience at both Suncorp Super Netball premier
league games will be enhanced with high definition screens, large
scale projection and the highest quality audio equipment
throughout.
“ICC Sydney is Australia’s premier integrated
convention, exhibition and entertainment venue and has welcomed
just on two million visitors to a vibrant calendar of 1,100 events
since opening in December 2016. We have worked hard to
establish ICC Sydney’s reputation as one of the world’s leading
venues. Whether it’s an indoor sporting event, a live music
performance or a theatre production, we are focused on continuing
to deliver unparalleled experiences for visitors,” Donaghy added
