The Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel has achieved
EarthCheck’s Silver Certification.
Since achieving Bronze Certificate last year,
the hotel has successfully implemented more comprehensive and
sustainable operations in every department, such as reducing paper
products and water usage, and encouraging greater reduction, reuse
and recycling.
Furthermore, the hotel has partnered with Foodlink
Foundation and now donates unconsumed food from events and restaurants
to minimise wastage and move towards a zero-waste environment.
The greenhouse gas emissions per guest night ratings also place
Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel’s performance above average according to
EarthCheck.
Steward Moore, CEO of EarthCheck,
said, “I would like to congratulate Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel on
their achievement. Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel is a valued member of
a global group of tourism operators who dare to make a difference
and has taken a significant leadership position in
sustainability.”
Dalip Singh, General Manager of Marco Polo
Hotels – Hong Kong, added, “Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel has been
making every effort to apply best practices in environmental and
social sustainability ... we have started the No Plastic campaign
to avoid ocean pollution and plastic straws have all been replaced
by paper straws at our restaurants and bars. We always look for
sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to build a better
world.”
