Philippine Airlines Expands Security Measures on UK and US-Bound Flights

In line with the regulatory requirements of the United States Department of Homeland Security (US DHS), Philippine Airlines is set to further expand security measures for its US-bound flights: Manila-Los Angeles/ Manila-San Francisco/Manila-Honolulu/Manila-Guam and Vancouver-New York (JFK).

Effective 30 June 2018, The airline will commence screening powder-like substances on a random continuous basis aside from screening all electronic devices larger than a cellphone or smartphone.

PAL will carry out inspections for powder-like substances 12 ounces (approximately 350 milliliters) or larger (for example, individual containers the size of larger than a beverage can).

Medically prescribed powder-like substances (baby formula or human remains 12oz (350ml) or larger) may be transported after security inspection.

Duty-free powder containers inside a properly sealed Secure Tamper Evident Bag (STEB) are allowed.

Philippine Airlines is advising passengers of US-bound flights to expect a slightly different check-in counter and gate screening set-up and to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before flight departure.

UK Flights

Philippine Airlines has also increased security measures for UK-bound flights, Manila-London Heathrow, by way of additional random screening of check-in baggage and gate screening procedures of passengers and hand carry baggage.

This move is in line with the regulatory requirements of the UK Department for Transport (UK DfT) for all flights operating directly from Manila to the United Kingdom.

As with the US-bound flights, PAL is advising passengers on UK-bound flights to expect a slightly different check-in counter and gate screening-set up and to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before flight departure.
