Jeju International Airport to Upgrade Security with New CT-Based Screening Systems

Smiths Detection has won a US$7 million contract from Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) to supply Jeju International Airport with five units each of HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, iLane.evo and IONSCAN 600, as well as Smiths Detection’s Checkpoint Management Software and Checkpoint Evo Plus.

Jeju International Airport is the first airport to install HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, Smiths Detection’s latest Computed Tomography (CT)-based cabin baggage screening system, which was launched in November last year.

The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX cabin bagging screening system utilises CT technology to provide the highest level of security while improving passenger throughput and lowering overall costs for airports. iLane.evo is an effective tray handling system, designed to remove bottlenecks to deliver a steady flow of trays; and IONSCAN 600 is a portable explosives trace detector that can accurately detect and identify a wide range of explosives in under eight seconds. Together, the three systems will further streamline operations and the screening process to reduce wait time for passengers at the security checkpoint.
