Aidi Abdullah, Chief Naturalist at Four Seasons
Resort Langkawi, has been invited to join the Langkawi
Geopark Ambassador program by the Langkawi Development Authority.
In this role as an ambassador,
Aidi will be responsible for cultivating awareness, interest and
conservation efforts for the UNESCO Geopark, along with continuing
his day-to-day role as the Chief Naturalist at the Four Seasons Resort.
“I’m
honoured to be recognised as a Langkawi Geopark Ambassador,” said
Aidi. “Kilim Karst Geopark is one of the world’s most diverse
tropical eco-systems, making for an extraordinary and unique
adventure for both visitors and residents alike. It is my awesome
responsibility to educate and promote conservation efforts so that
future generations have the same opportunity to witness Langkawi’s
rare wildlife species – ranging from lizards and snakes to monkeys
and birds - along with the stunning geological formations and
fauna in its natural habitat.”
Aidi, a 14-year veteran at Four
Seasons Resort Langkawi, has been instrumental in developing
sustainable practices at the resort and throughout Langkawi.
Through his efforts, Aidi has reduced carbon emissions and oil
spills by regulating and lowering boat speeds within the Geopark
and encouraging boat owners to switch from two-stroke to
four-stroke engines. Aidi also has developed and leads on-going
eco-tourism experiences at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, including
educational Mangrove & Eagles Safari tours and an annual mangrove
planting initiative in Kilim Karst Geopark. Since 2010, more than
5,000 trees have been planted as a result of Aidi’s efforts.
“As with all conservation, awareness is key,” Aidi
added. “At Four
Seasons, I have the pleasure of educating and inspiring guests on
a daily basis with our engaging Mangrove & Eagles Safari tour. For
me, it’s the best part of my day and allows me to showcase
Langkawi’s unique ecosystem and promote conservation efforts that
not only impact Langkawi, but the entire world.”
