Last week, John Stauss, formerly the General
Manager and Regional Vice President of Four Seasons Hotel London
at Park Lane, was awarded the AA Lifetime Achievement Award
2018-19 at the annual AA Hospitality Awards at Grosvenor House in
London.
Stauss retired at the end of March 2018, having
spent the last 23 years as General Manager of the 5 AA Red Star,
193-bedroom Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane, 21 years as
Regional Vice President, 35 years with Four Seasons Hotels and
Resorts and more than 50 years in the hospitality industry.
American-born Stauss joined Four Seasons Hotels
and Resorts in 1982 as Resident Manager of what was then Four
Seasons Hotel San Francisco. In 1985, still in California, he
moved to Four Seasons Hotel Newport Beach (formerly a Four Seasons
hotel) as pre-opening Hotel Manager and in 1988 he opened the new
Four Seasons Resort Nevis.
During his career, Stauss accumulated
numerous awards including UK Hotelier of the Year in 2005,
Virtuoso Hotelier of the Year and saw the iconic London property
named among the Best Places to Work in the UK.
During his time at Four Seasons Hotel London at
Park Lane, Stauss oversaw the two-year closure and subsequent
redevelopment of the hotel, transforming the longest serving Four
Seasons Hotel to its newest. Reopening in 2011, the hotel quickly
went on to win AA Hotel of the Year (London) the following year.
