InterContinental Hotels Group has signed its
first hotel in Gibraltar, under a franchise agreement with
property developers, Roquebrook.
Located close to the Old Town and just a
five-minute drive from Gibraltar International Airport, the Hotel
Indigo Gibraltar
will offer rooms facing north towards Spain and eastward-looking
rooms with views over the historic Northern Defences.
Converted
from an existing office block, the building will be entirely
reconfigured with a new facade and rooftop extension to form the
120-room Hotel Indigo Gibraltar.
In addition to a onsite gym, the
hotel will also have a restaurant and bar designed to attract
locals as well as guests.
Hylko Versteeg, Associate Vice President of
Development, IHG, Southern Europe, said, “We’re delighted to
be opening our first IHG hotel in Gibraltar with Roquebrook, which
we recognise is becoming an increasingly popular destination for
both business and leisure travellers. The Hotel Indigo brand
continues to rapidly grow in boutique, the industry’s fastest
growing segment, and we’re excited that the Rouquebrook team
recognise the brand’s huge potential for their latest project.”
There are currently 24 Hotel Indigo properties
(2,182 rooms) across Europe, with 20 hotels (2,353 rooms) in the
development pipeline.
