China Southern Airlines has launched non-stop flights
between Sanya's Phoenix International
Airport and London Heathrow.
Flight CZ651 is scheduled to depart Sanya at 13:00 every Thursday and
Sunday, arriving in London at 18:45. For the return
journey, flight CZ652 departs London Heathrow at 22:10 to arrive in Sanya at
16:20 the following day. The total flight time is about 12 hours and 45 minutes.
Hainan has recently accelerated its development
plans and is one of the first places in China to offer travelers
from 59 countries visa-free, and consequently hassle-free, access
to Sanya. This welcome move will help Sanya deepen
communication, trade, and cultural and tourism exchanges with the
UK and Europe and contributes strongly to Hainan's status as an
international free-trade zone.
The British Consulate General Guangzhou
Acting Consul General Andrew Ould said, "Hainan is facilitating
the construction of China's free-trade zone. I believe that the
launch of the direct flight between Sanya and London will help
attract more visitors from the UK to spend their holidays in Sanya
and UK-based companies to invest and establish facilities in the
city."
Sanya has witnessed
incredible growth in its tourism industry. Year-on-year growth
in inbound tours have encouraged airlines to accelerate
international expansion. Sanya recorded approximately 450,000
visitors in 2016 and that figure increased to 700,000 in 2017. As
of 12 July 2018, Sanya has witnessed the launch of 34 international routes
serving 25 destinations such as the UK, Russia, South Korea, and
Japan.
