Sports for Life, organiser of the World
Corporate Games, has confirmed that the 2019 edition will be held in
Qatar under the slogan ‘Qatar, where the world comes to compete’.
The 23rd edition is set to be held in November and will be the
first ever to take place in the Middle East.
Hassan Al Ibrahim, Acting Chairman of
Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) commented, “It gives us great
pleasure to be hosting the World Corporate Games in Doha next
year. The hosting of mass participation events such as this
supports our goals for developing a vibrant sports and recreation
tourism sub-sector in Qatar. Sport has a unique
power to bring people together and we look forward to having this
event amplify our country’s message of welcoming the world.”
The World Corporate Games are open to men and women of all
ages and abilities. Over the course of the tournament’s history,
it has included over 40 different sports ranging from dragon boat
racing and tenpin bowling to football and basketball to golf,
tennis and running.
Dr. Maureen Johnston, Founder of the
World Corporate Games, said, “We are delighted to be bringing the
World Corporate Games to Doha in 2019. Doha is a phenomenal global
capital of sport having hosted the Asian Games, Asian Cup and
elite world championships in handball, para-athletics, boxing
and cycling, with the gymnastics, athletics and swimming coming up,
not to forget the FIFA World Cup. We are proud to be
joining the likes of these outstanding events, and opening up a
competitive and fun global competition to the business community
in the region for the first time.”
The World
Corporate Games take place every 1-2 years and the last edition
was held in Houston, Texas in 2017. The Qatar edition of the World
Corportate Games is expected to attract 5,000 participants.
