AirAsia Sends Football Talents from China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) Football Club

Eight standout young football talents, hand-picked by Queens Park Rangers’ (QPR) coaches during the AirAsia-QPR Coaching Clinic Tour held last year throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and China, are currently at Loftus Road in London as part of AirAsia’s effort to empower youth through sports.

The eight young men, selected from a total of 223 from across the region, have been given a once in a life time opportunity to train at QPR’s Academy, meet the QPR first team and watch the match between QPR and Derby County FC at Loftus Road Stadium on 9 March.

AirAsia is the official shirt sponsor for QPR, and has been actively conducting outreach programs such as this football coaching clinic across the region to inspire and unearth local Asian football talent at the grassroots level.

Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia Berhad, said, “It is important for us to continue our efforts in empowering youth through sports. Asia is filled with so many talented young footballers, and all they need is the opportunity to shine. AirAsia is very happy to be part of their journey and in helping to inspire them to reach for their dreams. We would like to thank QPR in the Community Trust for their hard work and commitment in carrying out the coaching clinics across Asia, and we are sure that the over 200 participants from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and China have benefited greatly through this initiative.”

All participants of the coaching clinic tour have the opportunity to enhance their skills and competency on the pitch, learning useful skills such as ball manipulation, passing and shooting techniques as well as other tactical aspects of the game from QPR in the Community Trust’s coaches.

Andy Evans, CEO of QPR in the Community Trust said, “We’re delighted to welcome the winners to QPR. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to see what life in London and at a professional football club is all about. It gives us great pleasure to be working with AirAsia once again, who we thank for their continued support. Both QPR and AirAsia are passionate about developing young talent and it’s brilliant that we can come together in this way. This is the programme’s third year and every year has been even bigger and better than before. Our coaches are still talking about their trip to Asia in December, and now it’s our turn to give the boys a once-in-a-lifetime experience they’ll never forget.”
