John E. “Ned” Walker, who served as Delta’s
Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer during a
period of growth and transition for the company, is returning to
Delta in a similar position with increased responsibilities,
effective 1 January 2017.
He will join as a member of the Delta
Leadership Committee and will report to Delta’s Chief Executive Officer,
Edward H. Bastian.
“I am delighted to bring Ned’s talent and
expertise back to Delta. As we continue to take Delta to the next
level, Ned’s knowledge of the company and the industry coupled
with his deep experience in communicating our progress and success
will be enormously invaluable,” said Bastian, who became CEO in
May.
Walker served as Delta’s Chief Communications
Officer from 2008 to 2014 after 25-plus years elsewhere in the
airline industry, and upon retiring continued as a senior advisor
to the Delta executive team.
Walker takes over the CCO post from Kevin
Shinkle, who has decided to leave Delta and return to the
Northeast to be near his family.
“I want to express my
appreciation to Kevin for all he has accomplished since he joined
our team over two years ago. We wish him well in his future
endeavors,” Bastian said.
