Hong Kong Airlines to Launch Self-Bag Drop Service at HKIA

Hong Kong Airlines is preparing to launch a Self-Bag Drop (SBD) service for passengers departing from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Six SBD machines will be installed at Hong Kong Airlines counters at Aisle K of HKIA, and for the first two weeks each passenger who uses the service will be presented with a gift as a token of gratitude. Ground staff of the airline will also assist passengers with the new service.

During the trial run, the SBD service only applies to passengers with 1 checked baggage. Passengers with multiple bags will be able to enjoy the service after official launch.

There are a few steps to use SBD:

Step 1: Complete website / mobile app / self check-in with boarding pass on hand;

Step 2: Proceed to the SBD counters at Aisle K, Hong Kong International Airport;

Step 3: Follow the instructions from the SBD device and retrieve the bag tag;

Step 4: Attach the bag tag to your bag; and

Step 5: Drop the bag off at the counter and collect the baggage receipt.

The SBD service is not applicable to overweight and oversized checked baggage.
