Finnair Cargo Selects HUB Logistics to Operate New Terminal

Finnair Cargo is scheduled to open its new 37,000 square meters COOL Nordic Cargo hub at Helsinki Airport in May 2017.

For the next eight months, Finnair Cargo will work in close co-operation with HUB logistics to maximize the use of the new terminal from the start of operations.

The transition from the current terminal operator, Suomen Transval Oy, will be carried out as a transfer of business, which means that the Transval employees working in the Finnair Cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport will transfer to HUB logistics.

“Cargo is an integral part of Finnair's growth strategy and we intend to make the most of the warehouse automation and process optimization capabilities of our new terminal,” said Janne Tarvainen, Managing Director, Finnair Cargo. “This important step is now a great opportunity for us to significantly increase the volumes of cargo at our Helsinki hub. We look forward to developing the new cargo handling model together with HUB logistics.”

Finnair has invested 80 million euros in building a new cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport, with special cargo handling areas for pharmaceutical and life science products (Pharma) as well as perishable products, including fish and seafood. The new state-of-the-art terminal will have a high level of warehouse automation to ensure a high quality of air freight service and competitive handling costs.

Finnair's new Airbus A350 fleet will bring up to 50% more cargo capacity by 2020.
